SEMANTICS: the first semantic theory that was proposed in the framework
of generative grammar, in Katz & Fodor (1963). It assumed a semantic component
that assigns semantic representations to lexical items and, by means of recursive
'projection rules', to phrases and sentences. Semantic representations are
concepts which are built up from semantic primitives.
