Nyquist frequency

PHONETICS: The highest frequency component that can be captured with a given sampling rate (cf. analog-to-digital conversion). The Nyquist frequency is always one-half the sampling rate. Or in other words, the sampling rate has to be twice the frequency of any spectral component that one wants to capture.
