PHONOLOGY/PHONETICS: a process, i.e. assimilation of place of articulation, in which the place of obstruction shifts towards the hard palate. EXAMPLE: in Dutch tasje 'purse' alveolar /s/ is pronounced as alveopalatal [s] before /j/.
