Readjustment rule

PHONOLOGY/MORPHOLOGY: type of rule proposed by Chomsky & Halle (1968) to modify the output of the word formation rules or the output of the syntactic rules before these structures enter the phonological component. First, they change syntactic structure into phonological structure. Second, they change structures such as [[sing] PAST] into sung and other type of quasi phonological operations to adjust the output of the syntactic component.
