Reiterant speech
PHONETICS: For the study of the prosody of an utterance, intrinsic characteristics and co-intrinsic characteristics of this utterance must be distinguished from the prosodic characteristics. The use of reiterant speech makes it possible to abstract away from (co-) intrinsic characteristics. Instead of uttering a sentence like ‘John gave Mary a book’, the speaker replaces each syllable by the syllable ‘ma’, yielding ‘MA ma MAma ma MA’.
