Segmentation

PHONETICS: Segmentation means chopping up or slicing the speech signal into pieces. The signal can be chopped up into linguistic units, such as words, syllables or phonemes. Segmentation can also mean that the signal is periodically interrupted by a period of noise or silence, e.g. every 250 ms.
