MORPHOLOGY/SYNTAX: term introduced in Di Sciullo & Williams (1987) to refer to the property of words that they are the indivisible building blocks of syntax. Words are atomic with respect to syntax, since syntactic rules or principles cannot make reference to their parts (see lexical integrity).
