accent

PHONETICS: Primarily a change of pitch indicating that a certain element in an utterance is more prominent than others. Normally, apart from a pitch change, accent is also accompanied by increased duration and increased amplitude of the accented element. Sentence/utterances may as well have two or more accented elements. EXAMPLE: What did Peter buy? He bought a BOOK.
