PHONETICS: Category of speech errors, named after William A. Spooner, an English clergyman and dean of New College at Oxford at the turn of the century who is claimed to have said: 'You have hissed my mystery lectures' for 'You have missed my history lectures'. Such sound reversals are also called transpositions.
